I had downloaded the first three CDs of Debian onto my laptop. I thought this was already an accomplishment, because I apparently had the CDs of a real operating system, a system that could really run my computer, on my computer. And I had gotten these CDs free, and totally legally.

But they weren't really CDs yet: they were huge files containing CD images. I had to burn them first.

My laptop has no CD burner, so I transferred the three files containing the CD images over to another laptop. I was still totally on Windows here, on both machines, and I used Roxio to do the burning.
